It has taken two and a half years of hard work, but recently a tribunal upheld an appeal on documents wrongly withheld by the Home Office and the Information Commissioner’s Office. The complaint was for incorrect use of exemptions under the Freedom of Information Act to withhold documents.
We are now able to publish the Animals in Science Regulation Unit (ASRU) inspection reports from the period 2018 to 2024. Please feel free to read them, but be prepared to be underwhelmed, as these reports shed no light on the inherent cruelty and abuse at MBR. At no point are there any concerns raised about the conditions in which the beagles are bred and kept at MBR: NO concerns regarding the low level of staffing, NO concerns with the lack of bedding, NO concerns about the dogs not having access to the outdoors, NO concerns about the killing of dogs not meeting the standards for sale.
The reports actually get worse over the years in terms of anything related to the dogs. For example, one of the most recurring concerns raised throughout the reports is that of cracked paint!
It has been a long struggle to obtain public access to the reports we are publishing on our website. IT’S WHAT THEY DO NOT SAY THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES.
The reports reveal and demonstrate how far ASRU inspectors are embedded into the animal testing industry. ASRU and therefore the employed inspectorate are fully funded by those they regulate, a clear conflict of interest!
