Camp Beagle: Highlights from 2024

3 Whistleblower Exposes

This year, we released three powerful exposés, showcasing the truth behind the suffering of beagles used in animal testing.

MBR Acres whistleblower expose: we made and published four short films with the footage and testimony of a woman who worked at the beagle breeding site in Huntingdon.

MBR USA Whistleblower Expose

We shared photographs and footage taken inside the breeding site in New York State, where MBR holds over 23,000 beagles at any given time. In collaboration with Peta USA and Rise for Animals

Charles River Laboratories Whistleblower Expose

We published the full testimony of a woman left traumatised after working at the beagle unit as an animal technician assistant at Charles River Laboratories in Scotland.

Parliamentary Debate

After gathering 100,000 signatures for our petition, we were granted a Parliamentary debate on 19th February 2024.

During the debate the government admitted that “more can be done” and announced five changes, including more investment in the development of non-animal alternatives, and publishing a plan to accelerate the development, validation and uptake of technologies and methods to reduce reliance on the use of animals in science.

Since then there has been a change of Government, but this debate has become a catalyst to get the ball of politics rolling towards ending animal testing. The current government manifesto includes the promise to “work towards the phasing out of animal testing.”

Every MP who attended the debate was supportive of our petition. Here you can read some quotations from the MPs interventions at the debate: Click Here

Gemma Collins and many other celebrities came to Parliament Square to promote the debate, including: Faye Winter, Roxy Shahidi, Jedward, Sherley Kemp, Wendy Turner, Gillian McKeith, Simon King to name but a few.

IMPEX Depot Found

Throughout 2024 Impex has made 44 shipments, totaling 66 vans, to take beagle puppies from MBR Acres to UK laboratories. This represents a reduction of 16.5% in the number of vans used last year.

New Camp Beagle Patron

Isabelle, a 9 year old Camp Beagle supporter, who shone so bright that we made her our patron. She is a prolific letter writer and a strong political lobbyist.

She is dedicated to raising public awareness for the MBR beagles and to educate the new generation on the cruelty of animal testing and the new technologies readily available to bring science to the 21st century.

Amazing Fundraisers

Many of our supporters have organised fundraisers in their local area, their schools, their businesses and much needed funds were collected for our campaign to save the MBR beagles. Here are some examples of the many fundraisers for camp:

Social Media Stats

Raising awareness is a vital part of our job but that it is only a stepping stone ….from the awareness comes the action.

We have daily updates, publish films about the beagles using footage from the drone, make posts with news about our campaign regularly and do live streams about current issues: This year we are reaching further than ever, have a look at our stats and some of our most viewed posts.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us in 2024.

Together we’re one step closer to ending the cruelty of animal testing and giving the beagles the freedom they deserve.
