9 Questions asked in Parliament

Nine questions about MBR Acres were asked in Parliament in the first two weeks after recess.

Those questions were asked because people had been writing to their MPs, over the summer raising concerns about the conditions of the beagles at MBR Acres.

The Government pointed to announced and unannounced inspections carried out at MBR Acres over the last three years, saying they found no evidence of non-compliance or immediate animal welfare concerns.

But these statements expose a much deeper problem: if a regulatory system can inspect these facilities and find no welfare concerns, then the system designed to protect them — and all animals in laboratories across the country — is fundamentally broken.

The Government confirmed it has “no plans” for greater transparency or better scrutiny.
