UPDATE:
Sadly, on the 14th January the House of Commons voted in favour of adding the animal testing industry to Key National Infrastructure under the Public Order Act. This vote was 301 votes in favour of protecting animal testing facilities against protest and 110 votes against.
Although we were deeply upset at this result, the support we have received has been nothing short of amazing.
The legislation change now moves to the House of Lords and we are currently expecting this to be heard in the Lords on the 21st January. The House of Lords have the ability to raise a fatal motion which would block Secondary Legislation from becoming law. There have only been 4 successful fatal motions since 1997 but we see no reason why this cannot be the 5th!
With that in mind, you can send a letter to support our right to protest to the House of Lords at the following link. Any personalised text that you can add will hold extra weight.
It seems that a fatal motion is more likely when there is widespread public push back. Therefore, we would appreciate any contacts working in the media or anyone that can help us spread awareness to a large audience.
Thank you for your continued support.
11th January 2026…
On the 17th December 2025, a Delegated Legislation Committee met to discuss adding ‘life sciences’ to Section 7 of the Public Order Act. This would provide enhanced protection to animal testing facilities and even linked facilities such as MBR Acres. The added protection would equip the police with extra powers where activists are seen to be interfering with the operation of these facilities.
See link for full committee session https://hansard.parliament.uk/Commons/2025-12-17/debates/13c38b91-1145-4f9b-9736-6b359eb95bd7/DelegatedLegislationCommittee
The consequences of this new offence would carry up to a 12 month imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine.
During this committee, the vote was in favour of this change. This legislation was therefore then progressed to the House of Commons. Many of you wrote to your MP to object to this change. This worked as on the 7thJanuary, this change was opposed as seen here:
This results in the requirement for a House of Commons vote which is to take place on the 14th January. Please continue to engage with your MP. You can send an updated template letter to your MP at the following link: https://action.naturewatch.org/thrown-prison-being-voice-animals-not-our-watch. Any additions you can make to this letter on your own thoughts and feelings would add extra weight.
If you would like any extra support in engaging with your MP, please do get in touch at hello@thecampbeagle.com
In the event that this change is implemented, the future of Camp Beagle is unknown. It is likely that MBR will attempt to use this new legislation in their favour. We will stay for the puppies as long as we are able but we need your help!
Thank you always for all your support.
