In the United States, Marshall operates a breeding unit in North Rose, New York, which houses over 23,000 dogs in large, windowless industrial sheds. Unlike in Europe, the pens in which the dogs are kept have mesh floors to allow faeces and urine to fall through. See images provided by a whistleblower.  The company ships beagles to laboratories across the country and around the world.

In addition to breeding beagles, Marshall in the United States also breeds mongrels, hounds, ferrets, cats, mini pigs, guinea pigs and mice for use in laboratories.

Since 2007, officials from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) have cited Marshall for more than 20 violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act. These violations frequently highlight inadequate veterinary care and poor living conditions, with dogs often found standing in their own filth inside wire cages. (USDA APHIS Inspection Reports, 2010 and 2016 at Rise for Animals.)

Ferrets bred by Marshall are also sold in pet shops across the United States.  Marshall BioResources in the United States has also expanded into the pet products market, selling items in pet stores nationwide. Many customers are unaware that these products are produced by a company that also breeds animals for laboratory use.

If you are based in the United States and would like to help shut down Marshall, we encourage you to explore the important work of our partners at Rise for Animals.
