MBR Suppliers – One Year On

One year ago, MBR Suppliers launched a campaign to shut down the UK’s largest puppy factory, MBR Acres, by identifying and removing every pillar of support it requires to remain operational.

And their followers on Facebook have certainly stepped up to the plate to make this happen.

MBR Acres, the factory farm for dogs, who supply 2,000 beagles every year to the vivisection industry, really has been feeling the pressure.

As they begin year two, focused on the goal of making this their final 12 months, they have a look at some of the campaign highlights so far:

• 33 companies have joined the boycott of MBR Acres so far. That’s one every eleven days!

• MBR Suppliers pressured Impex, who transport dogs to MBR Acres, to pay off a loan agreement to HSBC early.

• MBR Suppliers helped identify Impex’s secret location and had them evicted.

• MBR Suppliers encouraged Pets at Home to remove products from JRS, an international supplier of animal testing facilities. JRS joined the boycott.

• Five fuel suppliers have joined the boycott of MBR Acres. If they can’t find a replacement, it will be catastrophic for them.

• A building company who were converting a part of MBR’s facility into offices downed tools and joined the boycott.

• The tip who took MBR’s waste joined the boycott, causing dog poo to pile up for several weeks.

• The company that emptied the human waste septic tanks also joined the boycott.

• The company that collects MBR’s clinical waste (and the dogs killed on site) have a national policy to lock their gates and pay staff overtime if even a single protester appears.

• Protests have taken place across the length and breadth of the UK – and even as far away as the USA! Combined with email, social media, and phone actions, MBR and their suppliers are really feeling the heat!
