Labour’s Roadmap to End Animal Testing

Labour’s long awaited roadmap to end animal testing has tragically, but oh so unsurprisingly, turned out to be nothing but a roadmap from the animal testing industry to keep their cruel, outdated business running for a few more decades.
Labours manifesto promise was this
“We will partner with scientists, industry, and civil society as we work towards the phasing out of animal testing.”
Once elected we were promised a roadmap to fulfill their pledge
“The party will promise to publish a roadmap to end the use of animals in the scientific testing of products. In the first year of a Labour government, a board of experts will be tasked with coming up with the plan to phase out the use of dogs, minipigs and rabbits in testing. This will include an end to medical testing when scientific alternatives allow.”
THE ONLY TRUTH LABOUR TOLD WAS THAT THEY WOULD BE PARTNERING WITH “INDUSTRY”.
THIS ROADMAP WAS WRITTEN BY THE ANIMAL TESTING INDUSTRY.
NO MORE TORTURE
NO MORE LIES
The Government’s new plan to phase out animal experiments actually fails its own target, as it doesn’t even attempt to end animal testing.
It’s a powerful piece of propaganda that the media is helping to spread, but it lacks the basic measures required to shift toward modern, cruelty-free science.
It does, however, show that the Government has taken notice of today’s societal demand for an end to the use of animals in scientific experiments.
The plan lacks key features such as a clear timeline with targets and an actual date for when no more animals will suffer in UK laboratories. Instead, it focuses on defending animal testing and committing to only minor changes with no real transformative impact.
We will continue to analyse this dry, 90-page-long document over the coming days and bring you further headlines on the Government’s proposal.
