Animal rights campaigner urges Mansfield people to Sign The Petition”
A campaigner from Mansfield is urging people to back a petition to stop animals from being tested on in laboratories.
The petition, on the website of the UK Parliament, is titled “End testing on dogs and other animals for development of products for human use”.
It states that: “Many tests on dogs and other animals cause unimaginable suffering. They can translate poorly into effective treatments and cures for human diseases or provide safety and efficacy data that is not relevant to humans.”
The petition says that “animals are bred & housed in bleak conditions and then used in tests that can cause immense physical and psychological suffering”.
Instead, campaigners are asking for new Non-Animal Methodologies to be used instead, and that they “believe the current testing paradigm is failing both animals and humans and is holding back medical advances.”
Holly Hensleigh, an equity release adviser & long-term care adviser, is urging people to back the petition.
There are currently just over 9,000 signatories. At 10,000 the UK Government will respond to this petition, and if it reaches 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in Parliament
Holly (36) told Mansfield News: “I would urge people to sign the petition. I don’t want animal testing. It is cruel and it does not make scientific sense.”
Holly is a regular campaigner at Camp Beagle a 24/7 protest camp set up outside the gates of a breeding facility that protestors say is “the one and only industrial breeder of beagles for animal experiments”.
Camp Beagle has had the support of many different types of people, including TV personalities such as Gemma Collins, Will Young, Anthea Turner, and Eammon Holmes.
