MBR Inspected by ASRU
MBR ACRES INSPECTED ON 10th JULY
In response to a Parliamentary question about the welfare of the beagles at MBR Acres during the recent period of extreme heat, Home Office Minister Sarah Jones MP stated that:
On 10 July 2026, the Animals in Science Regulation Unit (ASRU) carried out an announced visit to MBR Acres to inspect compliance with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA). No immediate animal welfare concerns were identified.
But there is a crucial fact the Minister failed to mention.
ASPA sets NO maximum or minimum temperatures for housing dogs. There are simply no legal temperature limits for inspectors to assess compliance against.
The legislation only requires temperatures to be recorded daily. It does not specify what temperature is acceptable or even what time of the day the reading should be taken.
The outcome of this inspection is concerning, but not surprising. For eight years, ASRU inspectors have repeatedly visited MBR Acres without ever identifying one single animal welfare concern.
That’s because ASPA permits all the terrible breeding practices used at MBR Acres:
• Dogs left unattended for 16–20 hours a day
• No access to the outdoors
• No bedding
• No water bowls
• Floors contaminated with urine and faeces
• No temperature-controlled sheds
• Insucicient enrichment
• Sawdust flooring that poses a serious risk to puppies
• The killing of healthy dogs who fail to meet sale standards
• No rehoming programme

One final question:
If there were no welfare concerns about the temperatures inside the sheds, why were the workers allowed to leave early because of the heat, while the dogs were left behind?
