19 MPs attended our debate last Monday to speak in favour of our petition and against animal testing. Fourteen of them were from the Labour Party, four were Liberal Democrats, and one was from the SNP.
Their message was clear: action is needed now to end the use of dogs and other animals in scientific procedures. This outdated methodology is failing human medicine, while modern, cutting-edge technologies providing human-relevant data are ready to be adopted.
If you live in the constituency of any of these 19 supportive MPs, please contact them to thank them for speaking up in Parliament for the animals suffering in vain, and encourage them to continue standing on the right side of history.
The debate was introduced and closed by Irene Campbell MP, who gave excellent speeches highlighting all the concerns raised in our petition.
After the interventions from the 19 backbenchers, one MP spoke on behalf of the Liberal Democrats, and another on behalf of the Conservatives.
Despite the overwhelming support for our petition, the Government’s reply at the end of the debate failed to acknowledge the important concerns raised by MPs.
While it is deeply disappointing that the Government is not accepting our petition to ban the use of dogs in scientific procedures, we will continue encouraging supporters to reach out to their MPs and educate them — one by one.
Please note that during the debate, many MPs mentioned the names of constituents who had reached out to them about this important issue and provided them with the relevant information to support our petition.
Here are some key quotes from their speeches, but you can read the full transcript of the debate on the Hansard website.
